What Data Are We Talking About?
Your browser and e-mail program send me data when you use this website or write me an e-mail. For example:
- Personal data such as your e-mail address, name, your message to me, etc
- Usage data such as which sub-pages you have visited and when
- Metadata such as the kind of device you’re using or your IP address
That’s perfectly normal; the internet has worked like that forever.
Why I Collect This Data
For one, to even be able to provide this website to you. If your browser doesn’t send its IP address, my web server won’t know where to send the contents of the website. Kind of like when you tell someone to call you, and they wouldn’t have your number. That would be stupid.
Two, the usage and metadata are being used to optimize this website.
It’s possible that this website stores cookies on your computer. If you don’t want that, please adjust your browser’s security settings accordingly.
Security
Of course I don’t want your data stolen. I give my best to anonymize the data collected and to protect it as good as I can.
Third-Party Data Processing
My hosting provider is Hostpoint. Hostpoint potentially saves data about you. They operate the server on which this website is stored and served from. For this, meta- and usage data is collected in order to make possible and optimize the serving of this and other websites.
I use Gmail as my mail provider. If you don’t want your e-mail to end up on a Google server, please don’t send me an e-mail.
In order to further optimize this website, I use Google Analytics. You can read here how Google treats Analytics data. You can stop Google Analytics from gathering data about you by installing a browser plugin such as this one.
The beautiful fonts on this website are provided by Google. You can read the data privacy details about that here. If you don’t like to use Google Fonts, you can opt out here: https://adssettings.google.com/authenticated
I have a couple of profiles on social media platforms. If you interact with me there, the privacy policy of that platform applies. And if you hit “like” on a post I make, I can see that. If you don’t want me to see such data, don’t interact with me on social media 🙂
